The purpose of this project is to create multimedia databases for Taiwan's wildlife species in digital forms. Wildlife data have been collected since the Japanese Occupation Period, and have been continued by researchers in the Institute of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, the Institute of Zoology and Department of Life Science, National Taiwan University.
The items archived include specimen, taxonomy, life history, distribution, body measurements, ecological photos, calls and songs, ecological videos and original description of published papers on the mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes and mollusks in Taiwan. Metadata have also been created to document the information. These databases are available online in a multimedia presentation and can be queried. Real-time distribution maps can be displayed and zoomed.
A total of 680,000 records will be digitally archived. Our databank represents the most complete wildlife information sources in Taiwan.
